Senior aldermen facing competitors: Ed Burke (14th), chairman of the powerful Finance Committee, faces Jaime Guzman, a former aide to U.S. Rep.-elect Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. And Patrick O’Connor (40th), the mayor’s floor leader, faces four candidates: businesswoman and school teacher Dianne Daleiden, utility company manager Andre Vasquez, community organizer Ugo Okere and small-business owner Maggie O’Keefe.
Aldermen with no challengers: Of the 50 Ward races, there are 8 that have no challengers. They are Brian Hopkins (2nd), Scott Waguespack (32nd), Carrie Austin (34th), Gilbert Villegas (36th), Emma Mitts (37th), Nicholas Sposato(38th), Brendan Reilly (42nd) and Harry Osterman (48th).
Running for multiple offices: Richard Mayers, a former Green candidate for Congress (he was kicked off the ballot in a challenge) is listed as a candidate for alderman, treasurer and clerk. He’ll have to choose by Dec. 3 which job he wants.
